Bringing Back Broadway
January 30th, 2008 10:10 AM

Broadway
Bringing Back Broadway just got approval for $40 Million Dollars. You can read more about the project below:

Los Angeles City Council member José Huizar, with support from Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and property owners of the largest historic theater district west of the Mississippi, have a vision for Bringing Back Broadway.

Bringing Back Broadway is a public-private partnership initiative to revitalize the historic Broadway district between 3rd and 9th streets.

Bringing Back Broadway will create a plan for a vibrant Broadway district that provides entertainment, eclectic cultural amenities and diverse retail options for Downtown residents and visitors to one of Los Angeles' most remarkable historic areas, while serving as a central focus for revived downtown streetcar transportation.

Right now, Broadway bustles with Latino shoppers and many others during the day, but very few of the theaters offer entertainment programming. The upper floors of Broadway's buildings are under-utilized, and the boulevard does not serve the needs of the downtown community especially at night.

As a link between the past and the future, the revitalized historic Broadway corridor will ensure that the vibrant, cultural character of Broadway remains, while helping Broadway provide something for everyone, day and night by complementing and connecting new large-scale downtown development projects, such as L.A. Live and Grand Avenue, as well as galleries, restaurants, and cultural activities on Spring Street and throughout Downtown.

Why people move downtown?
January 17th, 2008 11:24 AM

I have been working on the loft market for about five years now and since most lofts are located Downtown I tend to spend a lot of time there.
Clients and people that haven't been to DT lately always ask me this question.

There are several reasons that people are moving there and here are a few:

  • Most places in downtown are new or remodeled, if you are looking for stainless steel appliances and modern features this is the place for you
  • Proximity, in downtown you can walk to restaurants, concerts, clubs and the supermarket, it's all a few blocks away
  • City Living, you actually see people walking on the street and you feel that the streets are full of life
  • Sense of community, residents tend to relate to their neighbors
  • Adventure, is fun to explore all the new places that are coming up and it feels like you are in another city

Downtown is a fun place to be, ask anybody that lives there.
